Increment Weather Policy
In the event of RAIN
Outdoor Only
If it is raining or the court is wet, we will cancel the session in two ways: Posting a quick note on TeamReach, and we will cancel the session on playtimescheduler.
We do not recommend playing when the court surface is not dry or slippery due to water or other condition.
Heat Policy
Outdoor Only
LPC monitors excessive heat just as we do rain. LPC will cancel sessions during a Zone 2 Heat Index given the strenuous nature of pickleball and the age of the majority of our members. Any cancellations will be made promptly through PlayTime Scheduler and TeamReach. As always, players are welcome to play at their own risk.
Heat Index: Why is my Session Being Cancelled?
Heat Index combines the ambient temperature and relative humidity to calculate a measurement of how hot the air "feels" to your body. It accounts for the fact that high humidity prevents sweat from evaporating from the skin, interfering with the body's natural cooling system. A high relative humidity, 60% or higher, can make a 90 degree day feel like 100 degrees. Heat Index serves as a measure of caution with prolonged activity on a hot, humid day:
Zone 1 (yellow) Heat Index of 80-90 degrees. Caution during outdoor play. Bring twice as much water, dress lightly, wear a hat, take frequent breaks, sit in the shade and listen to your body. If you are feeling fatigued, lightheaded, nauseous or weak, put the paddle away for the day!
Zone 2 (dark yellow) Heat Index over 90 degrees. Extreme caution during outdoor play. LPC cancels all outdoor sessions.
Zone 3 (orange) Heat Index over 103 degrees. Outdoor play dangerous. Lex Rec cancels all outdoor activities.
Zone 4 (red) Heat Index over 125 degrees. Outdoor play extremely dangerous.
In the event of SNOW/ICE
Indoor and outdoor
If the weather is snowy/icy the Grace Chapel Indoor sessions may be cancelled. Those who are signed up will receive an email and we will post the update on TeamReach.
Grace Chapel may also close their facility due to weather or other events, and in those instances we will email those registered and post on TeamReach. Grace Chapel follows Lexington School System closure.
